The Texas Business Court Eleventh Division in Houston

The Texas Business Court’s Eleventh Division, which sits in Houston (Harris County), became operational in September 2024. It handles qualifying corporate governance and business ownership disputes, including matters that arise in the context of dissolution. As of September 1, 2025, Montgomery County was added to the Eleventh Division’s jurisdiction, extending that option to businesses in The Woodlands and surrounding areas.

Under House Bill 40, effective September 1, 2025, the Business Court has concurrent jurisdiction with Texas district courts over qualifying disputes with an amount in controversy of $5 million or more. Business Court judges are required to have at least 10 years of experience in complex civil business litigation, business transaction law, or service as a civil court judge, and the court issues written opinions on dispositive rulings. Cases may be filed directly in the Business Court or removed from a Texas district court if the matter qualifies. For high-stakes Houston dissolution disputes, that choice of venue can affect litigation strategy and is worth evaluating early.
